Normal Spirituality – The True Path

“Grandfather spoke again, saying, “Trying to live a spiritual life in modern society is the most difficult path one can walk. It is a path of pain, of isolation, and of shaken faith, but that is the only way that our Vision can become reality. Thus the true Quest in life is to live the philosophy of the Earth within the confines of man. There is no church or temple we need to seek peace, for ours are the temples of the wilderness. There are no spiritual leaders, for our hearts and the Creator are our only leaders. Our numbers are scattered; few speak our language or understand the things that we live. Thus we walk this path alone, for each Vision, each Quest, is unique unto the individual. But we must walk within society or our Vision dies, for a man not living his Vision is living death. — The Quest

Everybody thinks their watch tells the right time. All philosophies compete for supremacy because in their heart they believe that what was handed to them, from their ancestors, is the true way. And yet, like whispers, each generation adapts and changes the core of those philosophies until within 100 years, they are almost unrecognizable.

So often, humans seek education through institutions and teachers yet throughout history, nature has been the primary source of inspiration for all great poets, artists and philosophers. Natural Spirituality offers something different. It is a real, grounded and doable way to learn how, by observing the rhythm, vibration and cycles of nature we can be encouraged to live our vision, and follow the guidance of our heart.

There are many forces to contend with. The appetite for money. The desire for love and affection. The fear of loss. The need for acceptance. Each is a turning point that can take us on a long and expensive journey, away from our true heart. In this we must be vigilant. We do not always know the reasons, life is often unpredictable, therefore we must learn to trust our heart.

If we can adapt, we can live on purpose in life. That means, no matter if the sun rose in the west and set in the east, we would be undisturbed. This heart is the heart of forgiveness and compassion, gentleness and kindness. It must be, because these are the conditions in which this heart is open, then all we need to do, is listen.

The sound of our inner voice is an echo in the hollow of a valley. it is clear to follow, and will always guide us well, but there are noises that block or disturb the sounds, noises that confuse us. And these noises are emotions that breed desire, uncertainty and negativity. So, to live true to our own nature, we must learn to deal with these emotions in every day life.

Natural Spirituality also blurs the lines between work and play. Barefoot executives are the product of Natural Spiritual awareness, understanding how to use technology as a gift, rather than become consumed and obsessed by it. Natural Spirituality keeps this technology as a support, a tool, entertainment, but never confuses the real essence of life, nor allows that technology to disturb the human spirit of love and family relations.

Natural Spirituality gives inner peace, inner stillness and creates a pristine environment within and without. A more peaceful way of life, a process of self awareness that creates more harmony, happiness and calm in everyday life. It is a natural, relaxed spirituality that functions perfectly in the real world. It is a sense of perspective that is getting more precious and more valuable in life and therefore we must guard it carefully.

There are just five steps to learn, and then you have a mobile meditation, a way of staying calm no matter what you are doing, or where you are. It is a way of remaining authentic and self aware even when the world around you is changing. Natural Spirituality has been adopted by such groups as; Fortune 500 companies, the Federal Government of Canada, Indigenous community change programs, sports teams, rock bands, actors and actresses and entrepreneurs from all walks of life.

People are recognizing that repair of stress and personal disturbance to health is a much less efficient way of managing life than prevention. If we do not get stressed we do not need stress relief programs. I we do not get sick, we do not need emergency wards in hospitals. We are also recognizing that what was once thought to be a magic solution to the stress and ill health of modern life, is not working at all.

Eastern religions – as opposed to Western ones, were presented as “Better Options” but they are not. Although the alternative advocates will claim otherwise, we must consider the ongoing advancement of all the ailments that Eastern Medicine was meant to cure, and the primary countries where those ailments continue to grow, is in the East. If you were to study the consumption of antibiotics, blood pressure pills, nervous stress disorders and heart disease, we discover that, in the developed Eastern countries it is the same as the West.

Nor does religion solve problems of lifestyle, health and happiness. The consumption of drugs, anti depressants, fast food and the incidence of heart and other stress related problems is highest in the fundamentalist religious belts of the US and Europe.

All this is presenting are the facts that show an ever increasing diversity of “stress management” – “stress relief” and “stress healing” process. All this is achieving much benefit, but the real solution is at the cause of stress, not in it’s relief or post traumatic cure. And this is where Natural Spirituality has such a vital role in the future of the earth.

We have become disconnected from the rhythm and harmony of nature and as a result have adopted psychological and religion based doctrine as our code for life management. These do not consider the true nature of the human condition, rather, they imply a possible human, rarely in tune with the reality of life.

An alternative approach – Natural Spirituality.

Have you ever experienced a moment where you felt absolute oneness with the world around you? A state when everything became crystal clear and still and all of a sudden you understood the reality that exists in nature in everyday life? It may have been after a yoga class, or walking along the beach or even amongst the beautiful architecture around European cities. For most people this experience is a spontaneous moment of good luck, but in Natural Spirituality, his magical state can be achieved at will.

There is a stillness that exists within our true nature, and to find this, we must first go within and develop a relationship with the environment within us. We must come to know ourselves, without judgment or expectation. This is deep, a real connection to nature, our nature and the environment outside of us.

There are great masters such as Emerson, Plato and many Asian Masters (Lao Tzu) who are convinced that if mankind lived life according to the principles of nature, then we would be at peace with ourselves and with each other. It’s a philosophy not uncommon in the East but has yet to be fully grasped by the western world. Natural Spirituality is a modern way of presenting this ancient theme in a way that will resonate with modern day lifestyles, irrespective of people’s cultural or religious background.

Our relationships are a microcosm of the world around us. By understanding Natural Spirituality, finding our own true nature, we can create an environment for great and wonderful love within, and therefore outside of us too. This is a key as to how we can each help to build a better world, a more sustainable environment.

Natural Spirituality also has a huge positive effect on our relationships. We are the environment we create and our relationship reflects that inner environment. By coming into harmony with nature we transform the world around us and this is the means of building sacred love into our home and work life.

Natural Spirituality will teach you: How to bring more romance and love into our life. How to face, heal and embrace traumatic past relationships with family, lovers, and friends. How to hold onto the relationship of your dreams. The path to sustaining a magnificent, devotional relationship. How to connect to a partner who can share life’s journey with you.

The Yogi Sage Pattanjali was quoted “When you are inspired by some greater purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds, your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to a be a greater person by far than you ever dreams yourself to be”

I think what he is saying is that great things exist in us all, and they are naturally activated when we find a path that is truly ours. He is saying that, “until” we find a real purpose for doing something, we will not do it with all the joy and resources that are available to us.

You can also hear this in Native American tradition. “First of all, the healer must be one with the Earth. He has had to find the time to understand himself through the eyes of nature, learning who he is and where he fits in. He has had to break down the barriers that keep him separated from the natural world so that there is no inner or outer dimension. His prime source of understanding and knowledge must come to him from the Earth, and he must realize that he is nothing more than a hollow vessel that the Earth uses to heal. He listens with his heart not with his head, and he truly cares for people. He loves his enemies, for he believes that no matter what you send out, so too will you get in return. His care toward the land and his brothers and sisters is a powerful driving force. He is not only a healer of people but a healer of animals, plants, and Earth. His power can be felt in the love he has for his patient and the faith he has in the Creator.” — Field Guide to Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants.

In essence, there is no real separation between human nature and nature. We, our ego, may try to create identity, self identification and therefore a separation, but this ego dies when we do, it has no real merit in the non material world.

To live on PATH, we must, from time to time, withdraw from the material world of ego, and reconnect to nature. Both our own nature, and the environment of nature. It is impossible to hold real honesty in the buzz of the city, because in that environment we are competing for resources, defending against assault, etching our name in the pavement. To really find guidance, we must find a place where, no matter what takes place, we are safe and without identification. And then, we must convince our mind to relax and let go.

It has been my personal experience that an idle mind cannot find truth, and therefore we must, in order to release the ego, and reconnect with nature, find a point of focus for our mind. I see this with monks who chant, or yogi’s that bend their bodies, or priest that pray, they are all focussed intensly. So, in natural spirituality, instead of injecting ideas into our brain in order to focus it, we do something we love.

So, for example, when i go for a walk, I sometimes take a camera and do my nature photography. I am walking, enjoying but more importantly my mind and heart are focussed on seeing beauty. Or trekking through the Himalayas, we’re focussed on breathing and the soles of our feet. There’s a million things, making love, working on the computer, doing the gardening. Simply, Natural Spirituality focuses on something you love to be doing.

You might have heard people say “do what you love” or “when the joy goes out of it, then it is time to leave it” This is really meditation in action, because when you do something you enjoy, or even love doing, you are naturally focussed on it, just like those priests, monks and yogis. A holy person makes it their “job” to focus on peace or God or something. Your job might be mowing lawns so, rather than think God and Mow lawns, your Natural Spirituality comes when you think LAWN and MOW LAWN.

Now, you can tell when you are off track. You lose things, you have accidents, create calamities, cause disasters, in general you get humbled. So,in a really strange way, Natural Spirituality is operating whether you choose it or not. When you are not focussed, humbling things, focus you.

The western world has created so many justifications for things happening and created so many antidote, that it is really hard to know what is what. WE can talk on the phone, drive a car, listen to music, see a road sign, move our foot on the accelerator and scratch our nose while thinking about dinner tonight. That’s crazy stuff – technology ruining our quality of life, rather than enhancing it.

So, Natural Spirituality means turning up, connected, feeling in tune with those around you, focussed on what you are doing, relaxed but passionate about it all.

I your wealth, health, life, work or something starts to go down in quality, maybe its your Natural Spirituality telling you that the buzz has gone out of something that you are doing. In other words – you’re not focussed anymore.

Navigating the Path therefore, requires activity. Sitting around an ashram or a monastery is a great privilege, but real life spirituality can’t exist in isolation. We need to withdraw only so we find a practice that embraces more reality, not excludes it. For example; your partner might fart sometimes. You might get annoyed. So you go on your spiritual retreat and do yoga, the best witness to the progress you made is that, they still fart, but you aren’t as annoyed. A broader tolerance is developed.

Natural Spirituality is best developed in and around nature. You can sit or swim or walk or climb, or jump whatever you do, you need to do it with all your heart. And when the joy goes out, you either get it back, or move on. Remember, there’s no use grazing on burnt grass.

The other most important ingredient of Natural Spirituality is that very little of it has any explanation. It’s like someone asking you “WHY?” and you replying “I DUNO” – Simply, when you live in nature, in the wilderness you get to see that explanations are just mind games, and really, the best thing you can do is reject them all, be honest and be happy.
